Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be Catholic?
No. Individuals and couples of other faiths are welcome. It should be understood that Engaged Encounter-detroit is a Christian/Catholic program.

When should we go?
As early in your engagement as possible. 3 to 6 months before your wedding date is recommended. However, we understand that isn't always possible and couples are welcome to attend when their schedules allow.

When should I register?
As soon as possible. Weekends can fill months in advance.

What is the cost?
$175.00 per couple/2005.
$185.00 per couple/2006.

What is included?
Hotel accommodations, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday, as well as coffee during the weekend. All supplies for the retreat will be provided. No items may be charged to your room.

What are the sleeping arrangements?
Because we know that engaged couples have many expenses, we do everything we can to keep costs down. For this reason, double rooms are assigned. That means that, if you are a woman, you and another woman from our group would share a room, while your fiancé would room with another man from our group. Smoking preferences are honored when assigning rooms. The rooms each have two double beds and a bathroom.

What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing (jeans are fine); personal items and toiletries; a wristwatch; snack food; a swim suit if you wish to use the pool.

Will I be able to go to Mass?
Yes, the retreat includes a liturgy.

What if I've been married before?
Engaged Encounter-detroit is not designed for couples where one or both has been divorced, even if they have been granted an annulment. The Archdiocese of Detroit requires us to refer those couples to Cana II, a two-day overnight re-marriage retreat. For information or registration, call 734-414-1235.
